Tasmania was buzzing with Subaru activity this month with the Subaru
Safari round of the Australian Rally Championship.
Performance Automobiles in Hobart also had a huge start to the month, making the front page of the Hobart Mercury, with some very interesting statistics.
“More than half the number of cars recently acquired by local medical specialists, as part of their government employment entitlements, were Subarus. This was despite the fact that government executives may select suitable cars from a list of models provided by seven suppliers,” said Leon Joubert, Fleet Manager, Performance Automobiles, Hobart.
Performance Automobiles Dealer Principal, John Pooley said the figures, whilst impressive, weren’t a huge surprise given that Subarus appeal to a wide range of specialists, such as doctors.
“Medical specialists are a select user group and our experience shows that they have a very high regard for attributes like safety, quality and reliability. These are core features of all Subaru models with 5-Star ANCAP occupant safety ratings, and trademark symmetrical All-Wheel drive”.
Pooley also mentions rising fuel prices and high re-sale values as two other reasons Subarus are popular for government fleet buyers.
“Four cylinder cars like Subarus are more fuel efficient than typical 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder cars. With the continuing upward pressure on fuel costs, the Tasmanian government can achieve some fuel cost savings.
“Another interesting fact that is supported by the price data from the weekly auctions of used government cars in Tasmania, is that Subarus have exceptionally high resale value, which is another useful benefit for tax payers who ultimately foot the bill for government vehicle needs”.
