Autotrader, New Zealand's weekly motoring and motorsport magazine has awarded the Impreza WRX its Star Car of 2005.
Editor Mike Stock says the latest generation 2.5 litre WRX takes the small sports sedan "to a new level of user friendliness and sophistication."
The new front end styling "gives the car a sleeker, slightly elongated look.," while the improved torque at lower revs, "improves flexibility and reduces the need for downshifting," according to Mike Stock, who enjoyed the latest WRX's new found refinement.
He said there had been no loss in performance and handling and road holding "is breathtakingly good."
With its improved smooth yet firm ride, the Impreza WRX, was the best car he had driven in 2005, said Mr. Stock.
The award was testimony to FHI's (Fuji Heavy Industries - Subaru's parent company) successful changes to the 2006 model, said Chris Rickards, who takes over as General Manager of Subaru of New Zealand in the New Year.
"They've retained the performance and rallying heritage, yet refined the total package."
"The WRX has often been over shadowed by the STI," said Mr. Rickards. "But the new 2006 model is not merely a face lift, but almost a new car with the number of changes that have been made."
"The enhanced driveability will still offer the performance thrill while providing our customers with a smoother more refined ride."
