Liberty (Legacy) gets it right, says GoAuto website

Feb 26 , 2004 [Australia]
Automotive website www.goauto.com.au says the new generation Subaru Liberty (Legacy) is bigger, faster, more economical and cleaner-running, and "….to ask for more would be downright greedy."

In the introduction to its review, GoAuto says: Subaru is a Japanese brand that appeals to those with a slightly deeper than normal appreciation of the innermost workings of a car. It offers levels of engineering depth unusual at this end of the market, particularly with all-wheel drive a standard feature on all models. The fourth-generation Liberty (Legacy) takes it all a few steps further with nicely conceived, slightly larger packaging, tasteful presentation and even more refinement that makes it better to drive and more spacious. On top of that, the latest Liberty (Legacy) is lighter and more aerodynamic and the engines are more powerful. The upshot is that all versions of the new Liberty (Legacy) are bigger, faster, more economical and cleaner-running. To ask for more would be downright greedy.

Journalist Tim Britten writes: "The bigger body (60mm longer, 45mm wider and 10mm higher), slightly lengthened wheelbase and front and rear track dimensions give it a larger presence on the road and although it's roughly the same size as a Mazda6 or Honda Accord Euro, it somehow seems bigger."

He adds: Certainly the new car comes across as very refined. The frameless doors shut with a lovely thudding sound and there's a pleasant, restrained but quite classy approach to detail design."

Britten describes the All-Wheel Drive system as "…completely unobtrusive until you have need for it - and then it makes you think all cars should be designed this way."

He continues: The Latest Liberty (Legacy) is a better value proposition than before too: standard gear on the 2.5-litre model includes dual front airbags, climate-control air-conditioning, cruise control and a six-speaker sound system with a single-disc CD player."

The review concludes: The Liberty (Legacy) has been getting it right for some time now, and the new model builds on the same basic, sound foundations. There's always been a lot of engineering depth here; more than ever, the presentation and packaging is doing it justice."

The GoAuto web site has information on new and used vehicles consisting of editorial reviews; new model releases and future models; detailed drawings and data on hundreds of cars.
