Subaru Impreza WRX STi named best sport sedan by World of Wheels editors and readers

Mar 3 , 2004 [Canada]
Canadian enthusiast publication World of Wheels today announced that the Subaru Impreza WRX STi has been named the best Sport Sedan in Canada in the enthusiast publication's annual poll. The Impreza WRX STi received top honours as both the Editors' Choice and Driver's Choice.

The announcement, which appears in the just-issued 2004 World of Wheels Car Catalogue¸ praised the WRX STi for combining the "practicality of a sedan and the visceral thrill of the best two-door performance cars." Taking praise for the WRX STi's performance even further, the magazine noted that "few two-doors offer the thrilling driving experience of the STi, let alone its quality, practicality and rally-bred technology."

"Our thanks to the editors of World of Wheels - we couldn't have said this better ourselves," said Norio Osakabe, president, chairman and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. "They're telling us that Subaru has accomplished all of its goals with the Impreza WRX STi - to create a single car that offers outstanding performance for the demanding enthusiast in a package that's safe and practical enough to use as family transportation."

The annual World of Wheels Editors' Choice awards are selected from among all models available in each category. This ensures that the publication is offering its readers the most up-to-date information on and comparisons of all the current vehicles, not just the vehicles that are new or substantially changed for the current model year.

The performance flagship of the Subaru line, Impreza WRX STi is the most powerful Subaru ever offered in North America. Powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-litre DOHC boxer engine, it developes 300 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. On the WRX STi, this engine is teamed exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Impreza WRX STi is equipped with the brand's most performance-oriented Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system with DCCD (Driver Control Centre Differential). When in automatic mode, the computer varies the front/rear torque split automatically according to driving conditions and driver input. This unique drivetrain provides outstanding torque characteristics at both low and high rpm, taking the WRX STi from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
