Subaru proves you don’t need a big 4WD for towing, says Overlander magazine

Jul 2 , 2004 [Australia]
A towing test in Central Australia using Subaru Outback 3.0Rs and Jayco caravans has convinced specialist four wheel drive magazine Overlander that “you don’t need a big 4WD wagon to go Outback touring with a trailer in tow.”

In a four-page feature, resulting from a trip around the West MacDonnell Ranges near Alice Springs, Overlander Editor Mathieu Raudonikis says: “All in all, the Outback 3.0R proved to be a capable tow vehicle.”

He concludes: “ They displayed that they are a great, lightweight, more comfortable and user friendly alternative to the big full-size 4WDs and are worthy of consideration for anyone contemplating Outback touring, even if you’re towing.”
