Subaru Rally Team Canada Ready for Rally de Quebec

Toronto, On - The Subaru Rally Team Canada ( SRTC ) is finishing its preparations for the Rally De Quebec, February 26 - March 2 in Quebec City. The SRTC which consists of three vehicles in three different classes will field all three teams in what is anticipated to be one of the most competitive events ever to be held in Canada.

North American and 5 time Canadian Champion Tom McGeer along with his new co-driver, former British Rally Champion, Howard Davies will be competing in their Open class Subaru Impreza WRX. McGeer and Davies, who did not finish the Rally Perce-Neige Maniwaki due to an excursion into a snow bank, are primed for the event. McGeer said, " Our result at Perce-Neige was disappointing so we can't wait to get back out there and show everyone what we can do. Howard and I really were just starting to get a good feel for each other when we made that small mistake and ended up in the snow bank. That won't happen again".

McGeer and Davies will be going up against the Perce-Neige winners Sylvain and Philip Erickson in their Mitsubishi Lancer as well as two teams from Mitsubishi USA including McGeer's former co-driver, Mark Williams.

Meanwhile, Pat Richard, fresh from competition in the World Rally Championship in Sweden, is looking forward to the first event in defense of his 2002 Canadian Championship in the Group N class. Richard who finished 8th in the Production Cars portion of the WRC event is pumped about the Rally De Quebec. " I've always enjoyed the challenge of the Rally De Quebec ", stated Richard " and this years competition is going to be awesome ". Richard along with Mikael Johansson, his co-driver from the Rally of Sweden, will be competing against the Open class vehicles but will also face another Group N Subaru Impreza WRX driven by Peter Thompson.

The third member of the SRTC, John and Clarke Paynter, in a Production Class Subaru Impreza WRX are making their first start of the year. The 2001 Canadian Champions in the Production P4 class, are looking forward to the competition. John Paynter said, " The level of competition in our class has grown unbelievably over the past couple of years. " Winners of the Rallye Perce-Neige P4 class, Julien and Marie Eve Pilon along with Mathieu L'Estage in a Eagle Talon and Joel Levac in his Subaru Impreza WRX will provide the Paynters with a very stiff challenge.
