Richard Burns in a Subaru Impreza wins the 2001 WRC Drivers' Title

Nov 25 , 2001
In the final rally of the 2001 World Rally Championship (WRC), the Rally of Great Britain, held from November 22 to 25, Richard Burns of the Subaru World Rally Team piloted his Subaru Impreza into third position.

On entering this rally Burns was locked in a battle for the drivers' title with Colin McRae of Ford and Tommi Makinen of Mitsubishi. However, in a dramatic opening day these two rivals were forced to retire. In the difficult conditions, which along with slippery, muddy roads, included rain and fog that impaired visibility, Burns completed the rally with a stable and spectacular driving performance.

As a result, Burns captured his first drivers' title. In addition, this victory represents the fifth WRC title for Subaru providing evidence of the excellent performance of Subaru vehicles.
