Subaru Impreza driven by Richard Burns of the Subaru World Rally Team won round 3 of the 2000 World Rally Championship, the Safari Rally, held from February 24 to 27, 2000. With Juha Kankkunen in second place, Subaru dominated the top two positions. The two Subaru Imprezas kept first and second position from the first day and always maintained the initiative as the event developed. In oppressive heat exceeding 30 (86 ) throughout the event, the Subarus were always reliable and achieved their first victory in this year's WRC series. Fifty-one vehicles participated in this year's Safari Rally and a mere 17 overcame the extreme conditions to complete the rally. In addition, Toshihiro Arai, who showed great promise in last years WRC series, took sixth place in his Subaru Impreza.
