Burns wins Rally De Portugal second straight victory for Subaru 2000 WRC Round 4

Driving a Subaru Impreza, Richard Burns of the Subaru World Rally Team won round 4 of the 2000 World Rally Championship, the Rally De Portugal, held from March 16 to 19, 2000. Following its victory in the Safari Rally in the previous round, this is the second straight victory for Subaru. Going into the final day Burns trailed Marcus Gronholm driving a Peugeot 206 by 14.6 seconds. Burns performed a spectacular chase recording the fastest time on all three special stages to take victory by 6.5 seconds over Gronholm. This year's Rally De Portugal heralded the debut of the new Subaru Impreza WRC 2000, which showed its awesome potential by recording the fastest time in 12 of the 23 special stages. As a result, Subaru has 35 points for Manufacturers' Championship, extending its lead to 15-points over Mitsubishi in second place. In addition, Burns overtook Tommi Makinen of Mitsubishi to lead the list in Drivers' points.
