Richard Burns of the Subaru World Rally Team, piloting a Subaru Impreza WRX 2000, wrapped up the final event of the 2000 World Rally Championship held from November 23 to 26 with a win.
During special stage 2 on day one Burns got off to a late start after incurring damage to his car's rear left suspension. Later, Burns staged a spectacular recovery. On day two, Burns recorded successive leading times to jump into first place, and without a hint of fading vigor he crossed the finish in first to be awarded his third successive Rally of Great Britain title.
However, since Burns' rival for overall WRC drivers' points, Marcus Gronholm of Peugeot, took second place in the Rally of Britain, Burns missed out on the WRC drivers' title by 5 points. In manufacturers' points, Subaru took third place behind Peugeot and Ford.
