1-2 fiinish for Subaru at Rally of Finland WRC Round 10

Aug 23 , 1999
The Subaru Impreza WRC '99 driven by Juha Kankkunen of the Subaru World Rally Team won the Rally of Finland, round 10 of the 1999 World Rally Championship, held from August 20 to 22. Teammate Richard Burns took second place.

Since entering the second half of the WRC season, Subaru has displayed a high level of competitiveness and overpowering strength. Subaru has won three of the last four events, including a pair of one-two victories, and finished second once.

Every year, the Rally of Finland boasts an overwhelmingly strong lineup of local drivers. This year was no exception, and all the Finnish drivers, including Kankkunen, got off to a good start. Burns also displayed his mettle, putting up a good fight and working his way up the ranks. As the Finnish drivers - including five-time winner Tommi Makkinen of Mitsubishi - fell behind, Kankkunen and Burns became embroiled in yet another battle for the top spot. Kankkunen ended the race in first place, earning his second victory of the season. Burns pulled ahead of Toyota's Carlos Sainz at the last minute to finish second, a mere 9.7 seconds behind Kankkunen.
