On November 13, 2002 SIA received the honor of being designated a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Foundation, the 1st such designation bestowed on an auto manufacturing site in the United States. SIA is proud of association with the NWF, and the protection we provide to the wildlife who call our 880 acre site home. Some of our daily “residents” include: deer, geese, ducks, coyote, beavers, rabbits, squirrels, blue herons, and multitudes of various bird species. We’ve even had a pair of eagles stop by to say hello and stay awhile. We have 5 large ponds on our grounds, and some are stocked with fish.

With these types of animals making the SIA grounds their home we are even more cautious about our business activities and how we can better protect our “little” friends. We have eliminated the myth that a manufacturing site cannot co-exist with nature on a daily basis.
