SIA achieved a zero direct landfill approach to waste materials on May 4, 2004 and have continued to maintain that status to this day. SIA have also continually improved to achieve a 99.8% recycling rate, where the following environmental initiatives are in place for reuse and recycle programs.

SIA installed an on-site solvent recovery unit which processes approximately 227 kilolitres per year to be re-used on-site.

A centrifuge is brought on-site which results in 23 kilolitres of oil to be re-used each year.

Used absorbents are sent to be laundered and clean absorbents are returned to SIA for re-use. Between 2005 and 2006, over 12 tons of absorbents were re-used.

A centrifuge is brought on-site and the solvent is collected for recycling. The rags are taken off-site, melted and added to plastic polymers and then moulded into wire harnesses for vehicles. These environmental achievements have been recognised by the Indiana Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence in 2003 and 2006, and the Waste Wise Award from the Environmental Protection Agency in both 2006 and 2007 (2006: New Partner Gold Achievement in the Waste Reduction Program, 2007: Industrial Waste Recycling Gold Achievement).
