Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA) is a passenger car assembly plant located in Lafayette, Indiana, which commenced operations in 1987. With a workforce of 3300 Associates, SIA produces the Legacy, Outback and Tribeca models for our global customers.

The SIA manufacturing site is over 4.0 million square feet and is comprised of Stamping (steel/aluminum panel fabrication), Body (welding), Paint, Trim & Final Assembly, Engine Assembly, Material Management, Quality Control and Administration sections. Adjacent to the manufacturing site are the SIA Training, Technical Training, Associate Fitness, and Child Care Centers.

The Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. site is known for our many “First’s in the Industry”. These include being the 1st automotive manufacturer in North America site to be certified to the ISO9001 International Standard for Quality, the 1st to be certified to the ISO14001 International Standard for Environmental Management, the 1st be “smoke free”, the 1st be designated a “Backyard Wildlife Habitat”, and in 2004, the 1st to achieve “ZERO landfill status”.

SIA has been recognized with several Federal and State awards over the years, based on our environmental initiatives. We’re not only focused on our environmental programs within our facilities, but within the community as well. We provide non-drivable vehicles to schools throughout Indiana for educational purposes, as well as implementing a unique program entitled STARS (Students and Teachers Achieving Recycling Success) where we work with local high schools on establishing environmental programs within their schools.

SIA is proud of its environmental philosophies and the achievements we have made along with our other Subaru companies.
