Indiana Governor Mitchell Daniels Jr. awarded Subaru of Indiana Automotive the 2006 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for 5 Years Continuous Improvement during a presentation in Indianapolis.

        Through-out the period from (2001-2005) SIA continually improved its recycling rate to 99% by 2005, decreased waste discharged (lb/unit) by 94%, decreased waste generated (lb/unit) by 37%, decreased toxic emissions (lb/unit) by 40%, reduced electrical usage by 25% and reduced natural gas usage by 16%. An organized Environmental Management System (EMS) also enabled SIA to become “ZERO-LANDFILL”.

        This award recognizes Indiana’s leading organization that have implemented outstanding environmental strategies into their operations and decision-making processes. By seeking out and utilizing innovative environmental practices, facilities/programs reduce waste, save money, and contribute greatly to Indiana’s environmental protection efforts, as well as benefit the health and welfare of Indiana’s communities and the state as a whole.
