Indiana Governor Joseph Kernan awarded Subaru of Indiana Automotive the 2003 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for Recycling/Reuse during a presentation in Indianapolis.
Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. made excellent strides in reuse/recycling efforts since the beginning of production in 1989. During the time period of 2001 and 2002, SIA recycled 86.78% of all waste generated; over 55,000 tons of waste was recycled and kept out of landfills. SIA’s recycling efforts is accomplished by increased associate awareness and involvement, department waste reduction projects, and upper-management involvement with the Environmental Management System (EMS).
