Your ever-changing world is filled with ups and downs, but with the new X-Mode, you’ll have more confidence in the Forester to get up, over and around them. Advanced technology makes it simple to put the full capability of Symmetrical AWD to work for you, and complements it with the stability of Hill Descent Control and enhanced braking systems.

“X” marks added capability for any driver, on most any road. With a push of a button X-Mode takes control
of the engine, transmission, AWD, brakes, and other components to safely navigate through bad roads,
slippery surfaces and even the steepest hills for maximum confidence.

        Hill Descent Control

When X-Mode is activated, Hill Descent Control automatically helps to maintain a constant speed when the Forester is travelling downhill. The focus can be on steering safely through any curve on the downhill while leaving the braking to the Forester.

        Braking System

The standard 4-wheel disc brakes feature lightweight aluminium rear calipers and a strong, reassuring brake feel. The Antilock Braking System (ABS) includes Electronic Brake-force Distribution, to reapportion front/rear braking pressure when the vehicle is loaded. To ensure maximum braking during an emergency, the Forester features both Brake Assist and Brake Override. There’s also Subaru Hill Holder that helps prevent rollback when starting off on a 5% or steeper grade, by applying the electronic parking brake and automatically releasing it once you’re underway. The DIT model adds larger 17-inch ventilated discs in front and 16-inch ventilated discs for the rear, further enhancing the overall driving performance over many surfaces you may encounter.
